About the original book

Kenneth Grahame's novel was first published in 1908. Mole, Ratty, Badger and the boastful Mr Toad share adventures on the riverbank and in the Wild Wood.

Why it works for 11+ practice: The animal characters behave like people, which makes it a natural text for spotting personification, and Toad's boasting gives plenty to infer about character.

How to use it

  1. Read the storybook together or independently.
  2. Work through the study pack, looking back at the story to find evidence.
  3. Mark it with the answer guide and talk through any tricky questions.
  4. Use the 22-mark total to track progress across books.

Printing tip: print on A4 and choose "Actual size" or "100%", not "Fit to page", so the writing lines stay the right size.
